Who We Are

Thomas Edison School of Fairfax was founded to seek out and actively encourage students who may otherwise go unnoticed and unsupported in a traditional schooling model. Here in Northern Virginia, AAP (Advanced Academic Program) classes begin at the third grade level. For many students, this is just too long to wait for a fulfilling schooling experience! Our program is committed to setting a place at the table for your gifted student.

We believe that perhaps the biggest threat to a child’s growth and success is boredom. That’s why during their time in our program, your student(s) will be engaged according to their specific needs, interests, and aptitudes. Unlike other gifted programs in mainstream school settings, our limited class sizes and small teacher to student ratio allow us to adapt to the individual needs of our precious students. We aim to foster a community of creativity and provide  focused programming that inspires students to take ownership and pride in their educational experience.

We believe that there is more to academic success than what can be viewed in reports. Although our students do rank in the top 15% of their mainstream peers, our students also excel as members of their communities. Our academic model promotes integrated learning which invites students to understand course material in the context of its practical implication in the real world. By doing so, our students are encouraged to be keenly aware of their importance as an individual and responsibility as a member of their communities. In other words, a student who learns well learns for the good of others.

A Welcome

from our Headmaster Dr. Matthew Lee, Ph.D

It is my great pleasure and privilege to announce the opening of Thomas Edison School of Fairfax, a private primary GT school and the home of the Bumble Bees!

Thomas Edison School of Fairfax opens its doors with the clear objective of providing unique classes and learning experiences, particularly catering to gifted and talented children. At Thomas Edison School of Fairfax, a fully accredited private school recognized by Cognia (formerly known as AdvancEd), we believe children should begin developing their emotional, intellectual, physical, and spiritual capacity from an early age. We believe that from the beginning of their education, gifted children should be offered optimized instruction through a structured model. Our position is that this ideal can only be reached if their skills are identified early on, and that this is important not only for academic growth, but to instill a love of learning.

All my best,

Matthew Lee, Ph. D.
